Golf Tip for July 7th 2008
When you play golf, you must play in circumstances that change from course to course and from day to day because of weather conditions. Most golfers do not give difficulties caused by weather conditions enough respect. My guess is that the biggest mistake that is made is the club selection against the wind. At most a golf course, including Candlestone, the majority of the trouble is in front of the green complexes. You can go pin high left or right and most times long, and still be okay. Yet the lion’s share of shots, come up short, especially into the wind. Let’s say you hit a 7 iron from 150 yards in still conditions. Against a 5 mph wind you need to add one club, against 10 mph it becomes a “two club wind”, so from 150 yards you need to hit a 5 iron. Don’t ever think it is a sign of weakness to hit more club. You only write a number on the scorecard, not what club you hit.
